If you stop and think about it, you have a story to tell. The hard part is listening and waiting for it to emerge. We’re looking for short stories and poems that focus on your life experience. We love stories about kindness and are eager to learn how people have used it to bring good to life.
TWO TRACKS: (1) Short Stories (2) Poetry
The stories/poems that you submit must be written by you and not entered into a previous inSpire writing contest.
Execution – Each story should be submitted online as a TXT, Word.doc, Pages, or PDF file with the length somewhere between 800-1500 words. Poems will obviously be shorter.
Submission Limit – Each writer may submit up to two stories/poems (in each category).
Submission Fee: $15 for one, or $25 for two

Copyright and use: Any submissions you make will still be your material. You will retain first rights to everything you create! PLEASE NOTE: We strongly recommend that you copyright your material with the U.S. Library of Congress. By submitting your story/essay to us, you give inSpire the right to share, or possibly feature, your work on the inSpire website or Facebook wall, and in our inSpire/Renew newsletters.
By submitting your story/poem, you give the Pacific Union Conference the right to publish your work in a small sharing book that will be made available at cost. No profit will be made from this project, but will be solely published for the sake of sharing the stories and poems with others.

Essay/Story Submission/Registration (October 5-14) – Anyone (ages 15 years and older) who is a Seventh-day Adventist church member in the North American Division may enter the contest.
Poetry Submission/Registration (October 5-14) – Anyone (ages 15 years and older) who is a Seventh-day Adventist church member in the North American Division may enter the contest.
Snail Mail: We recommend that your submission(s) be made online. However, if you cannot do this, you may submit your entry via snail mail. Please send a copy to Pacific Union Conference, inSpire Writing Contest, Church Support Services, P.O. Box 5005, Westlake Village, CA 91359. Make check payable to Pacific Union Conference ($15 for one story/poem, or $25 for two).
Employees of the Pacific Union Conference (and their immediate family members), judges, staff or members of the inSpire organizing committee (and their immediate family members), may submit works, but are ineligible to receive awards.**
Awards: (1) First place – $400. (2) Second place – $300. (3) Third place – $200. The award amounts apply for both tracks (writing and poetry).
